My First Star: School Library Journal

Greetings from the humble halls of science!  We are officially in final countdown mode for when Leo Geo comes out, March 13; just a little more than a week away!  Things have been really busy here at the Auxiliary Imaging Division.  I will soon be posting a list of all the conventions that I will be attending this Spring once I get all of my genetically-engineered ducks in a row.

I recently got a really nice review from the School Library Journal.  Since all of the February reviews were heaped together, there isn't a direct link to the review.  Instead, I took a screenshot!

Thanks Catherine!  I was asked the other day what sort of response my work has gotten from kids.  Unfortunately, I don't know!  To hear that the format is easily digestible by kids is great!

Fresh from Quarentine

Despite a brush with disease here at the Auxiliary Imaging Division, the Fizzmont Contagion Control Team has cleared us to release images of a new piece printed right here in White River Junction.  Behold, the Fizzmont Institute bookmark:

 

One side of these immaculate literary placeholders was letterpressed at the Dartmouth Letterpress Studio in Hanover, NH.  The open sessions are run by Bob Metzler, and he has always been super rad and welcoming!  Each bookmark was handstamped at the bottom to mark their number in the edition.  The reverse side was printed with a two-color screenprint.  Both passes incorporated half-toning.  That's why there appears to be a fade with the yellow pass, and varying degrees of density with the blue pass.  Last month I printed some cats for some non-Fizzmont related projects, and ever since I've been interested in doing half-tone printing.  My goal is to eventually work my way up to full-blown 4-color process printing.  Keep well everyone!

Hello!  My name is Jon Chad and I am a cartoonist living and teaching in White River Junction, Vermont.  In 2007 I interned at the Center for Cartoon Studies, during which time I wrote and drew a book called Leo Geo.  Years later, that book was picked up by Roaring Brook Press.  After a redrawing and sweet hardcover treatment, the book is slated to come out on March 13th of next year.  Leading up to then I intend to use this site to post some of the process stuff that I've accumulated, as well as links of interest and whatnot.
